The Lady Nelson

Built in our bay, the 'Lady Nelson', is a replica of the ship used to found settlement in Hobart in 1803. It was built as Tasmania's Tall Ship for Australia's bicentennary in 1988.pastel/graphite 48 x 38$350

This scene was done from the small beach at the end of Martins Road. According to the locals this spot has been a favourite swimming place for many families, the old gum has been used as a boat anchor and a barbeque shelter once too often, but has had the tenacity to live on.oil painting 45 x 93cm$350

This painting was shown at the Huon Arts Southern Exposure exhibition, but now holds pride of place in my bedroom.oil painting 110 x 85cm$750

Global Woman

Painted for the Tasmanian Regional Arts "Material Woman Art Exhibition". The subject being 'Global Woman'.

Using the language of symbols, I have depicted Global Woman breaking free of the painful restrictions women have been forced to endure for centuries.

The rose, – pink, the colour of love, – represents the World Mother cradling the globe. The dewdrops are tears she sheds for humanity.
The apple depicts the uterus – red being the colour of blood and passion.

The Old Testament of The Bible teaches that Eve tempted Adam with an apple from the Garden of Eden.

The Crucifix formed upon the stem of the apple represents the part the church played in perpetuating the myth that women should be servile to men.

The shadow from the cross forms a dagger accentuating the pain this attitude caused.

The barbed wire represents the bondage and mutilation women have historically experienced. The strands, although partly severed, still bind, because millions of women still suffer untold sexual brutality.
Australia is prominently placed because our country leads the world in condemning all forms of violence against women.

The Gold frame incorporates the interwoven Laurel leaf - the universal symbol of Victory - the reward for sustained effort and hard work.
